History

The oldest picture we have of St. Peter's - taken around 1905. The vicarage hadn't yet been built, but you can see the chicken coop that was there!

The oldest picture of St. Peter's that we have, with board and batten siding, a small narthex, and the vicarage in the background.

A picture of the old interior of St. Peter's before it was redone.

This picture, taken in the 50's shows the narthex expanded, with two small rooms added to the front of the church.

A modern picture of what St. Peter's looks like today, with the tower and the vicarage in the background.

St. Peter's, which sits nestled in the George's Creek Valley, looks out in mission.

Saint Peter's Episcopal Church was the first church established in the town of Lonaconing, being founded on November 2, 1839.  The building was originally constructed in 1859, and the vicarage was built around 1918.
In the early 1900's a sacristy and cloak room were added onto the front of the church:
And in 1960 a bell tower was added onto the front of the church, and the exterior of the church has pretty much looked the same since:
But, our history is more than just buildings - because the Church is the people of God. On Easter 2005, we baptized 6 new Christians into our community, one of the most exciting days of our church's history.
